I photographed Caylah’s senior pictures nearly 18 months ago and her session is still one of my favorites to date. Yes, she is absolutely STUNNING.  Yes, she has an INCREDIBLE sense of style, amazing eyes and killer hair. Let’s face it, she is meant to be in front of a camera. But those aren’t any of the reasons that her session stands out to me…

I believe there are two types of  senior photographers; one that simply snaps the shutter, and another that connects with the person in front of the camera before even lifting the camera. With everything in me, I strive to be the latter and I run my business with that very intention. From the moment I met Caylah, I knew there was so much more to this young lady than her beautiful face; and it was that young lady that I wanted to connect with. Senior year was a trying time for her, personally, and this session couldn’t have come at a better time. I wanted to be a scapegoat for her, if only for a day. She dressed up, as she always does, styled her hair, had her makeup done to perfection and we set out for an incredible session downtown on a particularly gorgeous day. Each location and style was better than the last, leading us to our rooftop finale.  It was up on the rooftop, with all the the city noise muffled below,  that I believe she could briefly feel the world lifted off of her shoulders. I vividly remember pausing together to take in the view, enjoy the sunsetting behind us and noticing the quiet that we felt in the midst of the downtown Columbus city chaos. At that moment I knew my job was done; the connection had been made, the day was hers to enjoy,  her incredible senior portraits were simply the icing on the cake.
